Premium Agave Syrup in Raw Food Quality
Agave is a cactus-like plant from Mexico. Agave syrup is a delicious sweetener that is made from the juice which is extracted from the inner core of the agave plant, called the piña.
Traditionally, the indigenous people of Mexico collected the sweet juice ("aquamiel") from various Agave species, which they used as a sweetener and to prepare special celebratory beverages.
Since the juice of the agave spoils quickly, it is usually high-heat treated. With heating the healthier multiple sugars (polysaccharides, mainly inulin) are converted into simple sugars. Our agave syrup has raw food quality!
Why we love Agave Syrup
Agave syrup is a vegan alternative to honey and tastes lovely, like a cross between honey and maple syrup. It can be used as a sweetener in many ways.
Only the very gently treated agave syrup (as ours) has a low glycemic index and is being slowly absorbed into the bloodstream. It is therefore particularly recommended for people with sugar sensitivity.
SamaraNatura Agave Syrup
Our agave syrup is obtained exclusively from one species, Agave salmiana. No pesticides nor any other agricultural chemicals are being used in cultivation.
Most conventional agave syrups, also many available at health-food shops, are made from 3 to 6 different Agave species and have been strongly heated and pasteurized. They have lost so much of their nutrients!
Our agave syrup is very gently treated at low temperatures and belongs to the top quality syrups available on the market. The syrup is produced in special containers under vacuum, in which the water can evaporate at very low temperatures. The valuable vitamins, minerals and enzymes are preserved as far as possible and available to our bodies.
Because it is 100% natural, our agave syrup has a stronger flavour and darker color than standard syrups.
Agave syrup has a rather high and neutral sweetness. It enhances the flavour of dishes and is well soluble in hot and cold food and beverages. It can be also used in baked goods and to make jams and jellies as it hardly crystallizes.
