Hunza Apricots with Kernel
Our Hunza apricots come from the wild apricot trees in the Hunza valley in Kashmir (Pakistan), where small farmers harvest the fruits and dry them in the sun.
The Hunza people of Pakistan are renowned for being one of the healthiest peoples in the world, who still maintain a traditional way of life and are largely free of cancer. Wild apricots and their kernels are a common food and the oil of the seeds is an integral part of the kitchen of the Hunzu people.
Hunza apricots are nutritious, as most nuts are, but they are particularly rich in Amygdalin, which is also called vitamin B17. This widely recognised substance in respect to prevention and cure of cancer is also present in bitter almonds, apple seeds and some other foods, but largely disappeared from our modern diet.
Aside from whatever anti-cancer properties the seeds may offer, the fruit itself is exceptional in its own right and with an excellent flavour. Hunza dried apricots are packed with vitamin A and also contain a great deal of iron, potassium and natural food fibre.
Why we love Hunza Apricots
Many people nowadays know the benefits of eating hunza apricot kernels for prevention and helping to cure some forms of disease, especially cancer. We believe eating the kernels WITH the fruit itself is a more natural, balanced and effective way of getting the B17 benefits. As a plus, the dried apricot is super delicious and a great snack food.
SamaraNatura organic Hunza Apricots
SamaraNatura Hunza apricots grow in northern areas of Pakistan in Himalaya range, which is almost 2200 m above sea level. The area is mainly pollution free and the orchards are irrigated with spring and snow water.
There are groups of small farmers who usually have 5 to 20 trees. They manually harvest the product and dry it with sun drying process. Apricot orchards are seen everywhere in the Hunza valley, and a family's economic stability is measured by the number of trees they own.
Use
First, you enjoy the apricot and if you want, after cracking the pit, you eat the kernel of the fruit. The apricots can be soaked in water and then added to muesli and smoothies or made into a dessert.
Some sources claim it to be vitally important to roast the kernels first if you are going to ingest more than 5-10 kernels a day. On the other hand roasting destroys enzymes which could upset your stomach if you eat too many at one time. There is no way to know the absolute truth so please use your discernment when eating high amounts of Hunza kernels in one setting.
Note: EFSA recommends a consumption of not more than 1-2 apricot kernels per day.
