Last blog article, we spoke of the importance of soaking your superfoods powders.
This week we are going to focus on one of our bestselling products: Maca.
Maca is an excellent example of a raw superfood powder that would be helped by being soaked in warm water or even cooked, which is the traditional way that Maca is prepared in its native Peru, by either boiling or roasting it (just like potatoes), or by first drying and powdering it, but then boiling them into something porridge-like.
Want more out of your Maca powder?
It is of course fine to eat the raw Maca powder just blended with your favourite drink, but by cooking the Maca in this traditional fashion, the long, slightly indigestible starch chains are burst open, which translates into greater digestibility of the plant’s carbohydrates, and so long as they are not overcooked, greater all around nutrient bio-availability. Though of course some sensitive nutrients are lost, other beneficial factors are amplified.
Try our Maca Max
The other way to make Maca more easily digestible is Maca in its “gelatinised” form, where the starches have been saturated and broken down via hot water – our Maca Max is a gelatinized form of Maca powder and has a higher nutritive value, whilst being less demanding on our digestive systems.
Or you can soak Maca powder
Another way of helping the Maca starches to be adequately broken down would be to soak the Maca powder overnight at room temperature, with no cooking, thereby protecting sensitive-to-heat nutrients.
So here you can find a slight variation to our now famous Macuccino recipe.
Ingredients for this Maca Deluxe Energy Drink
2.5 dl Almond Milk (Almond butter mixed in water) or any other milk of your choice
1 Tsp.- 1 Tbsp. Maca Powder
1/4 Tsp. Vanilla powder
Pinch of cinnamon, cardamom or cayenne pepper
Sweetener of choice: coconut sugar goes really well with Maca.
Boil the Maca powder in almond or rice milk and add the spices and sweetener and serve warm. Alternatively you can soak the powders in the almond/rice milk overnight and in the morning mix all the ingredients together, preferably with a blender.
If using without any previous preparation (soaking or cooking), best to use Maca Max (gelatinised maca) for this recipe, for easy digestion and absorption.
Macuccino is an extraordinary drink for the winter.
In the following short movie we present you another really delicious variation of our Macuccino:
Maca is known to warm the body from the inside out (although it reduces women’s hot flashes because it regulates the hormonal imbalances experienced by some menopausal or pre-menopausal women) and give strength to the body while at the same time relieving excess stress and preparing the body for the rigours of the winter ahead.
Some of the other great benefits of Maca include:
- Boost Libido & Fertility
- Strengthen endurance and energy levels
- Relieve fatigue and reduce menopausal symptoms in women.
- Alleviate menstrual problems and many of its uncomfortable symptoms.
- Skincare, especially for skin problems such as acne
- Ability to relieve mild depression
The benefits of the ancient Peruvian Maca root continue through the present day as a leading superfood health enhancer. For those who have benefited from its health properties, Maca comes highly recommended as a time-tested source of health.
