Camu Camu - Amazonian Jungle Super Fruit
Camu camu fruit has the highest recorded amount of natural vitamin C known on the planet. In comparison to oranges, camu camu provides thirty times more vitamin C, ten times more iron, three times more niacin, twice as much riboflavin and 50% more phosphorus!
Due to its natural origin and in synergy with other vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids and amino acids, the vitamin C contained in camu camu is fully assimilated by the body, which is not the case with synthetic vitamin C.
The fruit has been traditionally eaten by people of the Amazonian rainforest to help maintain their health. It was used widely in local folk medicine for rheumatism, toothache, promoting energy and vitality, supporting the immune system and functions of the brain and for clearing lungs, colds and flu.
Camu camu contains between 2-3 grams of vitamin C per 100 gram of fresh fruit. This might sound this is not a lot compared with synthetic vitamin C supplements, but the vitamin C in Camu Camu is in its natural bio available form. It works synergistically in the body for maximum benefit.
Why we love Camu Camu
We find camu camu to be energizing, uplifting and mood enhancing. It clears the head and brightens up our day. It helps us function optimally throughout the day and keeps our spirits high. This is quite an amazing feat for such a little berry.
We are all very aware of the incredible benefits of vitamin C and now we can forget about synthetic vitamin C, because we have camu camu! That is such a privilege and a blessing for people like us, who always look out for what nature has to offer rather than using artificial substitutes. The camu berry is 100 % natural and based on powerful high-density nutrition.
As with any other superfood, it is very practical to use – just use the powder in your morning smoothie or as an afternoon pick-me-up drink.
We also like that the growing popularity of this wild rainforest fruit is contributing to the sustainable development of the Amazon River basin and helping the forest dwellers to maintain their traditional way of life.
SamaraNatura Camu Camu
SamaraNatura Camu Camu grows wild in the Peruvian Amazon. It is harvested directly into a freezer boat, which travels down the river ways of the Amazon where the fruit is picked at the height of its ripeness and flash-frozen. It is then taken to a processing plant where it is thawed, peeled, liquefied and spray dried.
The resulting powder is a pale pink to yellow brown with very potent effects. Our camu camu comes in the form of a pure, unadulterated powder with a light tan colour. It takes 15 kg of berries to make 1 kg of the powder, which has 13-16% vitamin C by weight. Thus only a little is needed to provide you with a powerful antioxidant boost.
The taste of camu camu is quite acidic, although it does not have an acidic effect on the body and it is gentler on the stomach compared to synthetic ascorbic acid. It is best appreciated mixed with other ingredients.
Add approximately a quarter to half a teaspoon (2-3 grams) to juices, smoothies, ice creams, raw desserts, or simply to your drinking water. It is a great way to balance the sweetness in fruit smoothies and desserts.
Camu camu and marine Phytoplankton work complementary to help the brain and eyes work at their highest levels of efficiency. Combining these two supplements in any recipe may provide a substantial boost in mental clarity.
One can increase ones dosage with time. Diarrhoea symptoms indicate excessive intake of Camu Camu.
