Carob - Ancient Mediterranean Sweetener
Carob is a legume that that has been used for thousands of years as a sweetener and nutritious natural snack. It comes from the carob tree, a wild evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean. Carob was well known to the ancient Greeks, who planted its seeds in Greece and Italy.
Carob is naturally sweet and much less sweetener is required when it is used in recipes. It is low glycaemic, low fat and extremely nutritious – especially high in calcium, protein and fibre.
Why we love Carob-Powder
People who don't know carob well think it is a healthy version of (sugary and fat) chocolate, but it is so much more. We actually love to mix carob with raw cacao for a lovely and healthy treat. Cacao is rich in magnesium and carob is three times richer in calcium compared to chocolate, has one third less calories and only 1% fat.
SamaraNatura Carob Powder
Our carob powder comes from Italy and is a 100% raw. This is unlike regular carob powder, which is usually roasted to at least 90ºC, whereas ours is never heated above 37ºC, using a special low-temperature drying and grinding process, which retains all the flavour, colour and nutrition.
Use it to sweeten any dish, in desserts, smoothies, sprinkled in your muesli, as ingredient in raw chocolate and cakes and in quick and satisfying snacks.
