Product information "Organic Pomegranates 100g, Fairtrade"

These premium organic pomegranates are particularly dark violet, almost purple and very rich in antioxidants. They are from small groups in the picturesque environment of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The pomegranates are harvested by hand, piece by piece, and hand-peeled and gently dried on the same day by Silk Road Organic Foods.

For the production of 100 g of pomegranate seeds one needs about 1 kg of fresh organic fruits, ie a ratio of 1:10!

The pomegranate has been cultivated for over 5000 years and is thus one of the oldest plants of mankind. The name pomegranate is derived from the Romans (Latin granae = kernels, grains, granatus = granular, kernreich).

The pomegranate has always been a symbol of life and fertility. These dried pomegranates are made from carefully selected fresh fruits which are peeled by hand and then gently dried.

Refine your breakfast, salads or pomegranates for baking and surprise your guests with this exquisite delicacy of the Silk Road.

Characteristics of Pomegranates

Not long ago, Japanese researchers found that the pomegranate is rich in phyto-estrogens, especially oestrone. Oestrone is a mildly effective estrogen that resembles female sex hormones. The pomegranate also contains a lot of vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants and fibres. The pomegranate also has a stimulating effect, which has a particularly positive effect on chronic fatigue, impotence, infections and inflammation. The pomegranate contains large amounts of antioxidant, secondary crops such as polyphenols (flavonoids, tannins).

The pomegranate cores are characterized by a red to dark violet color. On drying, the moisture of the segments is lost and the core with the fruity skin remains. The core is crispy and edible. The surrounding fruit pulp with the skin gives the kernels an aromatic, characteristic fruity taste.

The pomegranate has a legendary tale: it probably triggered the Trojan war. In the Christian culture the pomegranate is the symbol of the fertility of Mary, and he is also a symbol of life, and the Egyptians attached it to the mummies. To this day it is regarded as an aphrodisiac and is a component of innumerable beverages.

Origin and manufacture

These organic fairtrade pomegranate seeds come from a remote mountain village in the Varganza Valley, in the south of Uzbekistan. They mature in trees, in the mountain regions around Samarkand. The area is a large area of organic and FAIRTRADE certified and is managed by the FAIRTRADE farmers living there. The peasants belong to a large fairtrade community, which consists of 3 groups, Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. To them belong about 1000 individual peasants, together with their families. Thanks to the cooperation with Fairtrade, farmers can offer their families a secure income and their children a new perspective.

After the harvest, the kernels are freed from the hard shell in a special process and then gently dried with the help of the sun. The drying method used is a very environmentally friendly solar drying method, which is extremely product-friendly.

In Austria, the pomegranate cores are deprived of pressure. In printing, the combination of pressure and time ensures absolute freedom from pestilence.
