Wakame - wild collections from Galicia
These brown algae grow like large oak leaves on the Galician coast and can grow up to 1.5 metres in size. They are very rich in calcium, iodine, protein and fibre.
They are well suited for newcomers to seaweed cuisine because they can be used in many different ways: raw or in salads, in soups, rice dishes, combined with other vegetables and as a filling for pies, baked in the oven or simply cooked.
Use of Irish wakame
- Raw: in salads (chop and soak for 15 minutes)
- Cooked: approx. 20 mins with soups, vegetables, potatoes, rice, avena, millet, polenta, semolina etc.
- Fried: Together with onions: for pasta, pies, pizzas, quiche etc.
- Steamed: Together with vegetables
